MANY YOUNG MEN OF TWENTY by John B Keane

This was the group’s most ambitious production to date. The group went on to win awards with the production at the North Cork Drama Festival in March of 2002. See the newspaper clipping. The group also did a gala performance of the play later in 2002 for the official re-opening of the Newmarket Community Centre.

John B. Keane’s “Many Young Men of Twenty” was first produced in 1961 and has been staged countless times since all over the world. Set in or around the late 1950’s, the entire play takes place in a pub in the fictional Irish village of Keelty, and the story centres around the theme of young people leaving Ireland to escape the chronic unemployment situation at the time.
