LEND ME A TENOR by Ken Ludwig

“Newmarket Drama Groups’ production of Ken Ludwigs’ ‘Lend me A Tenor’ takes to the stage this Friday for the first of two runs at the local CYMS hall.

The story centres on the fate of a charity concert that’s in jeopardy because of the misfortunes of the Italian tenor. That calls for drastic action with the impressario’s docile assistant attempting to save the day in what is a hillarious comedy of mistaken identity and plot twists.

Famous Italian tenor ‘Tito Merelli’ (John O’sullivan) is set to sing in Newmarket before going on to Cork Opera House for his debut performance. But of course, nothing runs smoothly for the high pitched Tito. Instead, his understudy endeavours to save the day, leading to plenty of fun and games.

The Newmarket Drama group requires little introduction as they have been treading the boards for just shy of two decades and in that time have notched up truly excellent productions that have brought the house down.

This cast also features Theresa O’keeffe (Maria) Philip Linehan (Henry Saunders) Danielle O’grady (Maggie) Patrick Breen (Max) Michelle Enright (Diana the soprano) Willie John Buckley (Bellhop Boy) and Martha Keller (Julie).” The Corkman
